Measurement and privacy
GivePass gives sponsors and community organizations the information they need to understand campaign activity without selling participant data or building cross-campaign advertising profiles.
Campaign measurement
Scans
Raw interactions before integrity checks.
Verified GivePass visits
Valid interactions with a participating location's active in-store campaign code that passed GivePass integrity checks.
Unique participants
Distinct GivePass passports active in the campaign.
New to this merchant on GivePass
A participant with no earlier recorded GivePass visit at that merchant. This is not the same as a first-time customer.
Milestone engagement
The number of participants who reached each configured visit milestone.
Dollars directed
Sponsor-funded contributions unlocked and directed during the campaign.
Verified visits
Each participating location receives a unique, non-guessable GivePass code. When someone scans it, GivePass applies per-location cooldowns, duplicate prevention, velocity checks, and anomaly detection before counting the interaction as a verified visit.
GivePass does not request geolocation. The physical sign and location-specific code establish the campaign context without adding a location permission prompt.
A verified visit is not proof of purchase. Someone can scan without buying or buy without scanning, so GivePass does not claim purchase attribution.
Reporting boundaries
Purchases
GivePass measures verified campaign interactions, not transactions.
Revenue generated
No revenue figure is derived from campaign activity.
Incremental visits
Incrementality requires a counterfactual the campaign does not have.
Perfect attribution
A verified visit does not establish that a purchase followed.
First-time customers
GivePass knows when a participant records their first GivePass visit at a merchant. It does not know whether that person had visited the business before GivePass.
Sponsor impressions
GivePass records verified visits. It does not estimate unmeasured impressions.
If a future post-campaign survey asks whether someone had previously visited a business, the result is labeled self-reported first visits and published with its sample size and response rate.
Reporting by role
Pick an audience to see the document they receive, what it contains, and what it is careful never to include.
Illustrative contents, not a live report. No figure in a GivePass report is a payout until the period closes. Fairhaven is an example community, not a customer.
Privacy by design
GivePass uses participant activity to operate the campaign, prevent abuse, calculate aggregate results, and direct charitable funding. It does not sell participant data or create cross-campaign consumer profiles for advertising or remarketing.
GivePass does not sell participant data.
GivePass does not build cross-campaign advertising profiles.
GivePass does not access merchant POS data or participant purchase histories.
Adding an email agrees to recovery and occasional passport emails, stored as separate records; unsubscribing never affects recovery. Neither is required to participate.
A business sees its own results only once enough visits are recorded to report them, and never another business’s.
Individual cause selections are not disclosed to sponsors, operators, merchants, or other participants.
Every definition on this page is one we will walk through line by line — what it counts, what it deliberately does not, and how it is calculated. If something here would not survive your board or your compliance team, that is the conversation worth having first.
